TERMS AND CONDITIONS
Definitions
Customer / Client – The person, company, or organisation purchasing or agreeing to purchase goods or services from J Fire Safety.
Conditions – These Terms and Conditions and any special terms agreed in writing. Verbal agreements will not be accepted unless confirmed in writing.
Seller / Company – J Fire Safety.
Price – The agreed cost for services and/or products, including delivery, packaging, and VAT unless stated otherwise.
Contract – Any agreement between the Customer and J Fire Safety for the supply of goods, installation works, maintenance, or services, whether completed electronically or otherwise.
Door Leaf - Movable panel of a door that opens and closes within the door frame.
Door Frame - Fixed structural surround that is built into or attached to the wall opening and supports the door leaf.
Fire Door Installation
1. Acceptance of Terms
a) Acceptance of a quotation or instruction to proceed with works confirms acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
2. Installation Works
2.1 General Installation Standards
a) All works will be carried out by competent and experienced installers supported by trained management.
b) All fire door products and associated ironmongery supplied will comply with relevant British Standards where applicable, including but not limited to:
- BS 9999
- BS EN 1634-1
- BS 476 Parts 22 and 31.1
c) Unless specified in writing prior to installation, J Fire Safety will select suitable products and brands that meet compliance requirements.
2.2 Decorating and Finishing
a) Fire doors will receive primer and two coats of satin paint or wood stain where specified within the quotation.
b) Additional finishing coats or decoration are not included unless specifically detailed in the quotation and may incur additional costs.
c) Fire doors will be painted in the same colour on each door leaf side unless specified in writing by the client.
d) J Fire Safety accepts no responsibility for paint thickness or finishes applied by third parties. Third party decorators must ensure compliance with fire door clearance and regulatory requirements.
e) Final decoration and making good works are excluded unless stated within the quotation.
2.3 Frames, Surrounding Areas, and Making Good
a) Damage may occur during removal and installation of doors and frames.
b) Redecoration may be required following installation.
c) J Fire Safety accepts no responsibility for flooring surrounding door areas or adjustments to floor levels affecting door tolerances. Floor coverings will be provided, however any reported damage from the customer should be reported alongside a dated photo of the flooring to show the condition before installation.
d) Door tolerances are set based on measurements at the time of the measure up appointment.
e) If the door has been altered after the measure up appointment before installation and J Fire Safety are not made aware of this, costs for manufacturing a new door will occur.
f) If the door has been altered after the measure up has been carried out and J Fire Safety is made aware before the door has been manufactured, there will an additional measure up cost invoiced.
g) Customers must not alter doors following installation.
h) Hidden electrical or plumbing services will be chargeable to the bill payer should they affect the installation.
i) Cables and wiring for items such as intercoms, TV, broadband and phone lines or similar that pass through the frame or nearby are not the responsibility of J Fire Safety and will be chargeable to the bill payer should J Fire need to appoint an engineer to remove or alter.
2.4 Keys
a) Doors will be supplied with keys.
Unless instructed otherwise in writing:
- Two keys will be left with tenants
- Remaining keys will be provided to the landlord or owner.
Additional keys can be supplied at additional cost.
b) J Fire Safety are not responsible for any dirt on keys that enter the lock.
c) J Fire Safety are not responsible for any bent or damaged keys.
2.5 Changes to Works
a) Any requested changes must be submitted in writing. If manufacture of the door has begun J Fire Safety may be unable to approve any changes. Approval is subject to agreement by J Fire Safety and may incur additional charges.
2.6 Cleaning
a) J Fire Safety will remove waste and debris generated by works at the end of each working day.
2.7 Defects and Adjustments
a) Installation defects must be reported within one week of completion.
b) Adjustments required after the warranty period are chargeable and will be confirmed in writing.
c) Adjustments required due to wear and tear or floor covering changes are not covered by warranty.
2.8 Insurance and Lock Compliance
a) Customers are responsible for confirming any insurance requirements relating to lock standards. Specific requirements must be provided in writing before installation.
3. Timber Doors, Frames and Environmental Conditions
a) Timber doors and frames are natural products that respond to environmental conditions. Timber materials expand and contract in response to changes in temperature and humidity.
b) Movement, swelling, shrinkage, or minor distortion caused by environmental conditions is a recognised natural characteristic and does not indicate a fault in manufacture, supply, or installation.
c) The Customer is responsible for ensuring suitable environmental conditions within the property. Excessive humidity, moisture ingress, poor ventilation, or extreme temperature fluctuations may affect door performance and appearance.
d) J Fire Safety accepts no liability for defects, operational issues, or cosmetic changes resulting from environmental conditions, building movement, water damage, or failure to maintain appropriate internal climate control.
e) Humidity levels should fall between 40 – 60%.
4. Pricing and Payment Terms
a) A 50% deposit is required for works outside of contract agreements. Deposits are non-refundable if works are cancelled by the Customer.
b) All prices are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.
c) Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00. Works outside these hours may incur additional charges. Please refer to contract for specific call out charges.
d) Invoices are payable within 7 working days unless otherwise agreed. Late payments may incur interest charges and recovery action including court proceedings.
5. Warranty
a) Fire doors and associated ironmongery are covered by a 12-month warranty unless damage is caused by third parties, misuse, or external factors.
b) Warranty exclusions include:
- Damage from furniture movement
- Tampering or alteration by third parties
- Wear and tear
- Damage caused by cleaning chemicals
- Items fitted to doors by third parties
- Obstruction or misuse of drop bars
- Environmental factors
- Dirty or damaged keys.
c) Lock adjustments are covered within the first 12 months only.
d) Compliance inspections following reported damage may be chargeable.
e) Any obstruction to the drop bars will cause damage. Replacement drop bars on doors installed by J Fire Safety will be chargeable.
f) Handles which are rusty, harmed by cleaning chemicals or damaged by any type of wear and tear are not covered in your warranty and will not be replaced free of charge.
g) Items screwed to the door (not by J Fire Safety) will terminate the warranty.
6. Access Requirements
a) The Customer must provide safe and suitable access to the property during scheduled appointments.
b) Failure to provide access on the day of installation may result in a charge starting at £285.00+VAT
8. Cancellation and Rescheduling
a) Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a charge of £285.00+VAT per allocated hour.
b) Cancellation within 72 hours of the scheduled start date will incur a £185.00+VAT cancellation fee.
c) Cancellation must be sent in writing to info@jfiresafety.co.uk.
d) Booking deposits and final payments are non-refundable.
9. Certification
a) Certification for fire doors will be issued via email once full payment has been received.
10. Klarna Payments
a) Where Klarna payment options are used, payment terms will be governed by Klarna’s terms and conditions. Customers should refer directly to Klarna for payment queries.
11. Liability
a) J Fire Safety will carry out works with reasonable care and skill.
b) J Fire Safety shall not be liable for:
- Pre-existing defects
- Third party interference
- Environmental conditions
- Building movement or structural defects
- Failure to maintain installed products
12. Governing Law
a) These Terms and Conditions shall be governed by the laws of England and Wales
Fire Alarm & Emergency Lighting Maintenance Contracts & Installations
1. Acceptance of Terms
a) Acceptance of a quotation or instruction to proceed with works confirms acceptance of these Terms and Conditions.
b) The Contract commences when the works begin or when a written agreement is signed.
2. Installation Works
2.1 General Installation Standards
a) All works will be carried out by competent and experienced installers supported by trained management.
2.2 Decorating and Finishing
a) Final decoration and making good works are excluded unless stated within the quotation.
2.3 Changes to Works
a) Any requested changes must be submitted in writing. Approval is subject to agreement by J Fire Safety and may incur additional charges.
2.4 Cleaning
a) J Fire Safety will remove waste and debris generated by works at the end of each working day.

b) Adjustments required after the warranty period are chargeable and will be confirmed in writing.
c) Adjustments required due to wear and tear or damage are not covered by warranty.

a) Customers are responsible for confirming any insurance requirements. Specific requirements must be provided in writing before installation.
3. Pricing and Payment Terms
a) A 50% booking deposit is required for installation works.
b) Contract works must be paid in full before commencement unless Direct Debit arrangements are agreed.
c) Contracts which have not been paid for (overdue payment or failed direct debit) will be put on hold or cancelled until payment has been received.
d) All prices are subject to VAT at the prevailing rate.
e) Standard working hours are Monday to Friday, 08:00 – 17:00. Works outside these hours may incur additional charges. Please refer to contract for specific call out charges.
f) Invoices are payable within 7 working days unless otherwise agreed. Late payments may incur interest charges and recovery action including court proceedings
4. Warranty
a) Labour and parts warranty is 1 year. Damage caused by third parties, misuse or external factors will void the warranty
5. Access Requirements
a) The Customer must provide safe and suitable access to the property during scheduled appointments.
b) Failure to provide access on the day of installation may result in a charge starting at £285.00+VAT.
c) The customer is responsible for ensuring systems are kept accessible and free from obstruction. If any part of the system is inaccessible J Fire Safety are not required to carry out the test.
d) Engineers reserve the right to abort or reschedule visits if working conditions are deemed unsafe, inaccessible, or non-compliant, with charges applicable where appropriate
6. Cancellation and Rescheduling for Planned Works
a) Cancellation with less than 24 hours’ notice will incur a charge of £285.00+VAT per allocated hour.
b) Cancellation within 72 hours of the scheduled start date will incur a £185.00+VAT cancellation fee.

7. Fire Alarm, Emergency Lighting and AOV Maintenance Contracts
a) Maintenance contracts operate for 12 months unless otherwise stated.
b) Either party may terminate the agreement by providing three months written notice prior to contract anniversary. No refunds will be issued for unused contract periods.
c) Call out services are only available to properties with active maintenance contracts.
d) Annual & 6 monthly testing contracts do not include 24-hour call outs.
e) Out of hours call outs are chargeable at enhanced rates.
f) Telephone support resulting in fault resolution without site attendance is chargeable.
g) Annual testing appointments require access. Failure to provide access may result in additional charges.
h) A minimum one-hour labour charge applies to all attendance.
i) Logbooks which are damaged, missing or full will be replaced automatically and invoiced to the contract holder.
j) Fire alarm tests include the engineer activating the system and documenting the findings. Should any further investigation be necessary, this will be chargeable as per your contract terms.
k) Emergency lighting tests include a functional check of the emergency luminaires and documentation of the findings. Should any further investigation be necessary, this will be chargeable as per your contract terms.
l) Any detects identified during testing or investigation that require remedial works are not included within the maintenance contract and will be quoted for separately.
8.Certification
a) Certification/reports for the fire alarm/emergency lighting/AOV system for properties in contracts will be issued if either full payment has been received or direct debit is paid and up to date.
b) Certification/reports for the fire alarm/emergency lighting/AOV system NOT in contract will be issued once payment has been received in full.
9. Klarna Payments
a) Where Klarna payment options are used, payment terms will be governed by Klarna’s terms and conditions. Customers should refer directly to Klarna for payment queries
10. GoCardless
a) Where GoCardless payment options are used, payment terms will be governed by GoCardless’ terms and conditions. Customers should refer directly to GoCardless for payment queries.
11. Associated Companies
a) J Fire Safety operates alongside its sister company, J Electrical Services & Installations. Certain certifications or documentation may be issued under either company name.
12. Liability
a) J Fire Safety will carry out works with reasonable care and skill.
b) J Fire Safety shall not be liable for:
- Pre-existing defects
- Third party interference
- Environmental conditions
- Building movement or structural defects
- Failure to maintain installed products
