Carbon-Conscious Purchasing
At J Fire Safety, we are committed to using responsibly and ethically sourced timber throughout the manufacture of our doorsets. Our timber suppliers hold both FSC® (FSC-C007658) and PEFC (PEFC/16-37-046) certifications, demonstrating their commitment to responsible forest management and high environmental, social and ethical standards. They have been FSC certified since 2001 and were among the first 10 companies in the UK to achieve PEFC certification when the scheme was established in 2003.
Their commitment to sustainability also extends to their environmental management practices, with ISO 14001 certification covering areas such as transport, energy consumption, treatment processes and waste management. In addition, they provide Carbon Footprint and Biogenic Carbon data across their timber-based product range through their carbon calculator. This information can be provided on quotes, invoices and other documentation upon request, helping us to maintain greater transparency around the environmental impact of the materials used in our doorsets.
Reducing Manufacturing Waste
At our West Sussex manufacturing facility, we have adopted various environmentally friendly methods including, separating timber offcuts for reuse, recycling cardboard, plastics, metal and packaging, monitoring how much timber waste is produced per doorset and working with waste contractors who recycle rather than disposing in landfill.
Reducing Vehicle Emissions
We are always looking for ways to reduce emissions whilst we carry out quotes, deliveries and jobs. Our office team plan routes to minimise unnecessary mileage, we group deliveries to nearby projects, avoid unnecessary return journeys, monitor vehicle fuel consumption, use local suppliers where practical.
Improving Energy Efficiency Throughout Our Premises
Throughout our manufacturing facility & office we have made many improvements including installing LED lighting, monitoring electricity consumption, switching equipment off when not in use, improving insulation and heating efficiency. We have also gone more digital, reducing the amount of paper we use.
